Animal Husbandry or animal science has within the field sub-professions that are designated according to the animals that they cater to. Some of these names are cowherds, goatherd, and swineherd. With improvement in every avenue, farms employ persons with different qualifications to manage different areas of Animal Husbandry. Milkers, feeders, health specialists for herds and breeders are all employed on farms.
Breeding is done scientifically to improve the genetics of the herd and to also ensure that the females can breed. Techniques used for this are embryo transfer and artificial insemination. The embryos are transplanted from high bred cattle to surrogate mothers. In this way there is an increase in the number of births from stud quality animals. |
